Calling All Artisans!
Show off, be creative, and help out your Kingdom! Artemisia is trying out the craze that has been sweeping The Known World-- The Half-Dozen Donation Derby. The idea is simple: talented artisans show off their chops by making 6 of an item suitable for largess. Examples include 6 pieces of trim, 6 hats, 6 pouches, 6 pincushions, 6 toys, 6 necklaces, 6 rings-- the possibilities are endless!
If it is something you make and would like to receive, chances are someone else would too. After you've settled on a theme and made your items, get them ready for gifting. Please put a tag on it letting us know what it is, who you are, and ingredients or materials (just so people know how to wash it or what not to eat in case of allergies.) Then take a picture of your item and send it to HE Clare to display on this website. And finally, you can then either send your entries to Their Majesties or bring them to the Derby, which will be displayed at the Kingdom Day of Champions on July 26th in The Barony of 1000 Eyes. Items will be voted on by populous choice. The maker of the most popular entry gets to choose 1 item to keep from someone else's half-dozen. Based on the number of entries their may be more Choice prizes, to be determined at the Derby display. The remaining items from everyone's entries are then donated to the Kingdom for Largess, especially to help supply Their Majesties with gifts for the upcoming Pennsic War, which puts your fabulous items out into the world, spreading word of both your talent and your generosity.
You can check out examples of other Derby's entrants-- including the original one in the Principality of Tir Righ, in the Kingdom of An Tir as well as Derbies in the West, Outlands, Middle, Earldormere, and others at the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/520009888022124/
Stuck for ideas? There's an SCA largess group on Facebook with over 1,000 members https://www.facebook.com/groups/121369587947475/ and Pinterest is full of boards where people have collected loads of great ideas. Just do a search for "largess" or "largesse."
How To Participate
1) Register here to let us know you are participating in the Half Dozen Donation Derby. Give us a brief idea of what you are making.
2) Make 6 items of Largess. Remember, Their Majesties look forward to bringing these items to Pennsic and our Gift Kingdom is the Kingdom of the Outlands, so Outlands-themed gifts would be extra-appreciated! Information on the Kingdom of the Outlands can be found here
3) Tag your items with your name and any important care instructions or ingredients.
4) Take a picture of your items and send it to HE Clare here to be displayed on this website. Check back here often to see what wonderful Largess is being made!
5) Either send your finished items to HE Clare OR bring them to the Donation Derby Display at Kingdom Day of Champions, July 26th in The Barony of 1000 Eyes. If you can't be at Day of Champs, don't worry, your sent items will be there for the Populace Choice Vote and HE Clare will make arrangements with you should you win.
